Things to do while staying at Sea Winds Vineyard Cottage:
Set on the high ridge which runs through the centre of the Mornington Peninsula, Sea Winds Vineyard Cottage
provides ready access to all the attractions of the western, southern and eastern areas of the Peninsula.
These include:
- a number of larger wineries, together with some fine, smaller but less well known ones;
- a variety of local restaurants, some located at wineries, together with some excellent cafes;
- sunbathing, safe swimming and walking on a variety of beaches and if you are more adventurous,
some famous surf beaches are only a few minutes away! - for the walkers/hikers, the Mornington Peninsula National Park extends down to the ruggedness of
Cape Schanck - and the famous Bushrangers Bay Walking Track; - several fine golf courses are located throughout the Peninsula;
- and don't forget the famous Red Hill Market at the Red Hill Showgrounds on the 1st Saturday morning
of each month from September to April.
Of course, you can adopt a more leisurely pace and 'actively do nothing' while enjoying your relaxation at the cottage.
Wineries
Mornington Peninsula, one of Victoria's major wine growing regions, has more than 100 vineyards where some of Australia's best cool climate wines are produced.
Some larger wineries, such as Red Hill Estate at Red Hill South and Stonier Wines at Merricks are open daily, usually from about 11am, while many of the smaller, boutique wineries are only open at weekends. Miceli and Myrtaceae Vineyards are located a short drive away on Main Creek Road and are open on the first weekend of each month
A brochure, Wines of the Mornington Peninsula is available from the Dromana Information Centre, Nepean Highway, Dromana; Mornington Information Centre, Main Street, Mornington; and from any of the wineries.
Restaurants
For fine food and wine, great views and relaxing ambience we recommend Ten Minutes by Tractor, The Long Table and Max's at Red Hill Estate. For more relaxed dining try Baracca Trattoria at T'Gallant (especially for Sunday lunch!).
Beaches
Dromana, McRae and Rosebud, about 15 minutes drive west, and Rye, Sorrento and Portsea, a little further to the south west, provide the more tranquil beach experience of Port Phillip Bay. For exhilirating surf beaches try the Back Beaches at Rye, Portsea or Sorrento or at Gunnamatta - only 15 - 20 minutes to the west and south west. The beaches and towns of Westernport - to the east - provide a different experience again.
Golf courses
For the golfer, most of the local towns have a public golf course - there are about a dozen within easy driving range [car driving that is!] - and there are golf driving ranges at Mornington, Boneo and Cape Schanck.
There are also a number of highly ranked Private Golf Clubs e.g. National at Cape Schanck, Rosebud Country Club, Moonah Links at Fingal. While these are 'Members only' clubs, visiting members from other private clubs may be able to negotiate entrance.
